E-rate and Telecommunications Discounts

How E-rate Works: Follow the Process

New Method for Calculating your E-rate
The link above gives the details of figuring your discount. The quick answer:
(1. call the school district where your library is located and ask for the percentage of students eligible for the National School Lunch Program.
(2. Then determine if your library is in an urban or rural area by looking for your county on the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) page at the USAC web site.
(3. Look at the matrix located at the bottom of the Schools and Libraries section of the USAC page, follow their directions and determine your discount.

Basic Information about Telecommunications Discounts

The E-rate is the common name given to telecommunications discounts available through the Schools and Libraries Division of Universal Service Administrative Company.

Libraries who want to begin the process of filing for the E-rate should visit the Schools and Libraries Division web site. Instructions are available at the site. Application for the discount is completed online via the Internet. If you have any questions related to either the H.B.2128 discount or the E-rate discount, you may call Jerry McCulley at 972.205.2569.
