Media Overview
Overview of the NETLS Media Collection
The NETLS Media Collection consists of approximately 4200 educational VHS videos and DVDs and over 600 die blocks available for free loan to participating libraries.
All videos and DVDs have been purchased with Public Performance Rights, a special form of copyright license that allows public libraries to use them for programming within the library building or at other public venues. Since a public library is a public building, using DVDs or videos that are marked “For Home Use Only” (including materials that are rented or purchased from most retailers) for in-house programming purposes is a violation of U.S. copyright law. That is why the NETLS Media Collection was developed. Your library may use any of the titles in this collection for programming, or loan them to your patrons for their programming needs, without being concerned about legal liability.
The Die Block Collection is composed of commercially manufactured "master" blocks used in die cutting machines to produce various patterns and shapes. Each block produces one or more shapes or patterns. Die shapes may be used to create displays, signs, posters, nametags, and craft projects. Die blocks in this collection may be used with either Ellison® or AccuCut® die cutting machine systems.
The NETLS Media Collection has an online catalog called WebBOOK©, www.av.netls.org. WebBOOK has searching, booking, and statistic reporting modules that are available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. Participating libraries and their patrons are free to visit WebBOOK and search for specific titles or subjects at any time. Designated library staff members can be trained to use the system, given PIN information, and allowed to book media for the use of the library, its patrons, community organizations, or civic groups. The public library and its staff serve as the gateway for patrons to obtain materials from the NETLS Media Collection. NETLS does not book media directly to individual patrons.
Requested materials are delivered to the borrowing library by either Trans-Amigos Express (for participating libraries) or by U.S. Postal Service. Materials are returned to NETLS by the same method used to deliver them. Postage paid cards are available for those libraries using the U.S. Postal Service.
Each library that uses the Media Collection must have a LETTER OF AGREEMENT and current email and delivery address information on file with NETLS before materials can be booked. As a part of the Letter of Agreement, we contract to serve your library and your patrons. On your part, you agree to be responsible for borrowed materials, respect return dates and copyright restrictions, and report showing and viewer statistics for each title borrowed.
