NETLS Advisory Council Nominations
SFY 2012

NETLS is seeking nominations for the election of three Advisory Council council members at the May 24, 2011, Membership Meeting.  These three Advisory Council members will each serve 3-year terms, effective September 1, 2011, and ending on August 31, 2014.

Positions to be filled on the Advisory Council:
NETLS Bylaws state "Representation on the Advisory Council should be geographically balanced and reflective of the various sizes of member libraries within the system. The term of office for each Advisory Council member shall be for a period of three years. A council member may serve no more than two consecutive terms, but shall again become eligible for election to the council after an absence of one full term."

Bettye Haynes (Garland MRC) has resigned from the Advisory Council, and Mary Sykes (Lancaster) and Ann Saucer (Dallas) will complete their current terms on the Advisory Council on August 31, 2011.  Ann is eligible to seek election as she had been serving as the Alternate Council member.  Mary Sykes is completing her 2nd consecutive term, and as such is not eligible to stand for re-election at this time.  Advisory Council terms are staggered so that at least two vacancies occur annually.

The remaining Advisory Council members are:

  • Lynn Kornegay (DeSoto) and Ruth Semrau (Gilmer), who will be serving until August 2012, and
  • Linda Garrett (Rockwall) and Linda Larey (Texarkana), who will be serving until August 2013.

Nomination Procedure:
Any Representative (not an Alternate Representative) may be nominated by himself / herself or by anyone in the NETLS area.

There are two ways to be nominated:

  1. 1. Click here to complete the Advisory Council Online Nomination form and submit your nomination, OR
  2. 2. Be nominated from the floor and stand for nomination at the Membership Meeting on May 24, 2011.

Nominations submitted online to NETLS headquarters by Thursday, May 19, 2011, will have printed candidate information distributed at the May 24, 2011, meeting.  Nominations may also be made from the floor the day of the meeting, and will be accepted for those Representatives who are present or who have a spokesperson to speak for them.

Election Procedure:
a)  Election will be held at the Membership Meeting, Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the Atrium at the Patty Granville Arts Center in Garland.
b)  Only one person may vote for each member library.
c)  Ballots will be distributed at check-in on May 24, 2011.  If neither a library’s Representative nor the Alternate are able to attend the meeting, another person may be designated to attend and vote for the library.
d)  Only Representatives who are present or have a spokesperson at the meeting may stand for election.
e)  All nominees will be asked to introduce themselves at the meeting so the voters can “meet the candidates.”
